Flax Emporium Summer Relaunch Party

My little boy and I were lucky enough to get invited to Flax Emporium’s summer relaunch, which included a glance at their fab new summer range.

The independent clothing emporium within the Brighton Laines features some very unique and gorgeous pieces from small, UK designers. The emporium’s owner, Clare Bryant, even designs and hand sews some of the pieces herself, as she has had her own bespoke label for 14 years.

Clare can create costumes, wedding dresses, corsets and even lingerie. For this summer range she created some stunning dresses, I just wish I could afford them!

The shop was decorated with balloons, and had some yummy cake, brownies, popcorn and even cocktails for us to enjoy as we browsed the products. My son was in heaven when he got some cake, and to be honest, so was I- not helping the diet!

Clare took the time to explain to me that she began in the business as a wedding dress designer, before moving onto making corsets for all shapes and sizes, before expanding into dresses and accessories. Clare can tailor each piece to your body, and the fabric is great quality, so it’s easy to see why they cost what they do.

Here are my favourite pieces, from both the men and women’s sections that are now on my wish list:

Men’s Jacket Inspired By Scarface- I Wnt!

Gorgeous Blue Summery Top

Punk-Inspired Jacket

For the party, Clare’s friend and fellow businesswoman Claire Montgomery brought her stunning handmade accessories for us to see. I loved her Carousel Collection, which was inspired by our very own Brighton beach. The pieces are laser cut, handmade and even hand painted and my favourites were the ice cream cones!

Overall, we had a lovely time, and I was even given a little gift, again handmade by Clare, and it was inspired by her dog Nigel, so he was drawn and even stitched onto the goodie bag, and there were some gorgeous earrings in there from Cat A Cake and a candle. It was such a lovely end to a fun party!

YR Nails – Decals

I recently came across these anchor nail decals (transfers) while browsing through Amazon, only cost just over a pound… bargain!

They arrived within a couple of days which was impressive, and included a very clear, easy to follow instruction guide, 23 anchor decals and 2 free owl decals to practice with.PhotoGrid_1400696945920

I thought it was going to be tricky and awkward to apply the decals, as I have never used them before, but I was so wrong! it was surprisingly easy to carry out.

I firstly painted my nails in a khaki shade, and a holographic shade on my ring fingers, once they were dry I followed the decal instructions of cutting them to size  and soaking them in warm water for up to 30 seconds. Once the the decals slid off the backing paper, I blotted them dry and applied them to my ring finger nails, finishing them with a glossy top coat.

I was so happy with them I went straight onto the YRNAILS.com website and saw they do 1000’s of decals in funky/animal/flowers/patterns etc, nail wraps, nail tools and even polishes! They also do custom designs and the prices are amazing, starting from as little as 50p with free UK delivery!

I will be ordering a lot more products from YRNAILS 🙂 quality is amazing for sooooo little cost.

Legging Love-In!

Due to my yo-yo’ing weight at the moment I have spent a lot of time in leggings. They are so comfy and don’t make me feel so fat!

I’ve been getting a bit too Ebay friendly though, as they are so cheap on there, and as you can see I’ve picked some very random colours!

They average out at about £3 each which is a bargain, and now that it’s getting warmer, I plan to carry on wearing them, but with sandals and summery tops instead of the furry boots and jumpers I’ve been wearing.

Review: Clarence & Alabama Ophelia Vintage Dress

Vintage online fashion store Clarence & Alabama kindly gave me a dress from their newest collection to review.

I chose the Ophelia Vintage 1950s Picnic Dress by Lindy Bop in black and floral, because as you can see from the photographs, it’s stunning!

Beautiful Ophelia 1950s Dress

I’m really starting to get into vintage fashion, particularly 1950s as that era seems to suit us curvier women so well, and the dresses are so much more interesting than the more modern ones!

To help the dress reach it’s full potential you need to iron it and add a petticoat, so please bear in mind I did neither when I took my selfies!

I teamed the dress up with some gladiator sandals, just to give it a slightly modern look; I’m unsure whether the two go together, but I was comfortable!

Last weekend I wore the dress with black leggings, a short black shrug and some kitten heels for a dating event, and I felt the most glam girl there!

The sweetheart neckline with ruched bust panel is one of my favourite parts of the dress, because it shows off a girl’s cleavage, but in a way that still maintains your elegance!

The dress is very comfortable to wear, but it’s slightly heavier than your average dress, but that’s because the fabric is of good quality.

I love how the black really helps the colours of the flowers pop out, and the dress also comes in other colours including a gorgeous baby blue that I’m thinking of adding to my collection.

I have now got my eye on the wiggle dresses, but think I’m going to wait until I have shed some pounds, because they won’t be as flattering on my current tummy as this picnic dress is!

What’s even more exciting is that as I write this, Clarence & Alabama are having a SALE so check it out!

Clarence & Alabama kindly gave me this dress in order to review it. All opinions are honest and my own, and I did not receive any payment for this post.
